About

This is not a news website.
It is a little less, and maybe sometimes a little more.

About Polifi

Polifi will look to address policy questions associated with global finance with a clear head and argue why and crucially, how things could be improved.

The structure of how this analysis is presented will continue to be iterated, but at its core, Polifi will look at both the economy and social policy and how changes affect individuals, groups and entire communities.

The objective here is to be critical with an unbiased lens, free from political considerations and bandwagoning. The idea is to look at policies on their own merit and deconstruct them to analyse whether they truly achieve what they aim to do.

When we say global finance, we truly mean it.

This means that policies associated with both traditional finance and what people have come to know decentralized finance or the crypto industry will be critically analysed and appraised to help readers understand the potential impact they could have on both the micro and macro levels.

Why traditional finance and global policy?

The world is rapidly changing. As corporations look to maximize margins and profits, there is an element of consumers being left on the wayside without the protection or consideration for the overall welfare of the globe and the communities that live within it.

Corporate greed and the incessant need to maximise profit margins require that we focus on the policymakers and what they bring to handle the increasing threat of consumer exploitation.

Some of the questions this website will look to address

Is the policy being brought forward in good faith?

Does it actually look to resolve the stated problem?

Which policy is protecting who?

Who benefits from this policy?

There will be value judgments made, but they will be on the basis of the presented evidence.

Why decentralised finance?

Decentralised finance and the crypto industry have been around for more than a decade now. But there is a divide in the approach and understanding of the industry. There are those that work within it and around it, that understand the potential and the pitfalls.

But then there are others that are completely divorced from what the industry stands to offer to the larger economy, to global trade and the communities that can be potentially empowered from being able to access a decentralised economy.

With more institutions, governments and corporations jumping on the decentralized bandwagon however, cryptocurrency will not be the adopted child of global finance for too long now. This is why it is important for everyone to understand what it brings to the table, what needs to change and where policymakers fit into the equation.

Currently, there is a global divide on where people stand on cryptocurrency and the associated technology growth. You have the bullish proponents that wholeheartedly believe this is the future of finance. On the other side, you have the naysayers that are convinced cryptocurrency is a scam. Polifi is here to give you the nuance that is sorely needed.

There is enormous growth potential in cryptocurrency. There is a lot of technological advancement that is being made on the financial front in web3.

But like any other space, it is also full of bad faith actors, scams and a lot of hot air. Since the industry has just started being regulated, there is also a greater risk factor than traditional finance, but this also means there is greater opportunity. Polifi exists to connect the dots for you between decentralised finance and policymaking to address how and why states are reacting to the changing global order.

Values

A critical perspective

At its heart, Polifi is critical. The approach is to NOT treat politicians and policy makers as good faith actors, but to try and find out where and when the policies they propose and implement might benefit anyone other than the stated benefactors of the proposed change.

Unbiased in criticism

The objective in all things Polifi puts out is to be critical with an unbiased lens, free from political considerations and bandwagoning. The idea is to look at policies on their own merit and deconstruct them to analyse whether they truly achieve what they aim to do. We don’t care if it’s the left, right or anything in between, no one is safe from criticism and critique. We also do not like pigeon-holing our opinions on the basis of the political spectrum and where one is supposed to stand on the basis of their views.

For everyone

Polifi is a cross-section between policy, finance and issues of the economy, connecting both web2 and web3. It will look to consistently break down complex issues in a way that is understandable to all. After all, global finance and policy concerns everyone, and everyone should have access to the information that lets them form their own informed opinion about what is going on around them.

Iterative

Polifi is always subject to growth and change. Polifi will be the first to understand when any of the arguments it makes stand invalidated or were problematic to begin with. Any writers on this platform will always strive to be right, but will not shy away from admitting they are wrong when needed. We welcome criticism and the opportunity to change our opinion when new information comes to light.
